I have to admit, I'm kinda glad that this didn't catch on. I barely understand twitter as it is. I don't know what I'd do if people started using it to publish flash fiction on twitter and call it TwitterFic.

That actually sounds pretty cool and slightly different from TwitterFic. TwitterFic was supposed to be a story in one tweet whereas the one you mentioned will be spread over several tweets. Not unlike blog fiction, really.
